About Us
The Alpha Delta Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau at Case Western Reserve University is a growing chapter dedicated to building lifelong friendships and unforgettable college experiences. Since our reintroduction to CWRU in October of 1998 and chartering in May of 2000, we have established a solid reputation through academic success and campus activities.
Scholarship
As college students, we understand the importance of academics. Our chapter GPA is consistently one of the highest on campus, and in July of 2006 we were awarded the Moosnick Award by the Phi Kappa Tau Foundation for holding the highest GPA among Phi Tau chapters nationally. Scholarship is one of the most important aspects of being a brother of Phi Kappa Tau. The scholarship program has had outstanding success in previous years and this year we are looking to improve even further. For example, our Academic Accountability Partners program facilitates brothers checking in on each other's classroom performance, as well as encouraging an exchange of know ledge between brothers in similar academic fields. The tremendous academic success of our fraternity has been due in part to excellent scholarship programs in the past. With several improvements planned this year, we are confident we can maintain our high academic standing on campus. We've had the highest GPA for all members among all of the fraternities on campus for three of the last four years. At the Phi Kappa Tau National Convention this year we were presented with a Scholarship Award for the second highest GPA out of all chapters nationally. Our superb GPA is also reflected well by our new members, which consistently rank extremely high among all of the fraternities. We intend to continue our successes in the classroom and hopefully even improve on it. This will require a tremendous effort by all of the brothers not only to do well in their own classes but to also offer assistance to our brothers.
Philanthropy
2007 marked seven years of our annual "Phi K" 5k run on campus to support Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang Camps for terminally ill children. You can view past race results and more information about the event on the Phi K page. In the spring, we host a Casino Night in The Spot to benefit the same charity. You can see more details on the Casino Night page. In addition to these major events, brothers of Phi Kappa Tau spend countless hours in the community whether it be tutoring at Church of the Covenant or preparing a meal at the Ronald McDonald House.
Social Diversion
Each semester, we sponsor a variety of social events, beginning with fall and spring rush. Among our most popular rush events are all the spicy wings you can eat at Quaker Steak and Lube, climbing at the Cleveland Rock Gym, and Broomball. Brothers gather for mixers with campus sororities throughout the year and the annual Phi Tau Formal is in the spring. Last year we held our first "Party on the Floor" with mocktails, dancing, music, and fun on the 6th floor of Clarke Tower. All events we sponsor are alcohol-free, ensuring that brothers have fun in a safe, friendly atmosphere.
Brotherhood
The Brotherhood Committee is kicking off it’s year with focus on maintaining, broadening, and deepening the brotherhood of the Alpha Delta Chapter. Under the leadership of Jason Lau, the committee has planned a myriad of policies and activities in order to do so. Among their plans include a weekly dinner for the brothers at Leutner on Thursdays, superfan activities for the various Phi Tau Intramural Events, involvement in brother’s birthday celebrations, a commitment to spontaneous activities (Denny's runs, rock painting, road trips), and reaching out to brothers on Southside and those off the floor in general.
Although our activities provide a focus for the chapter, the central theme of our fraternity is developing lifelong brotherhood. There are many intangible benefits that stay with our members for life. Many of our recent alumni maintain strong ties with the chapter, and Phi Taus from around the country gather every year for alumni events and our National Convention.
