Even after achieving the highest honor Case Western’s Greek Life office can bestow upon a fraternity, the brothers of Phi Kappa Tau still know there’s always room for improvement.
In the 2003-2004 academic year, the Alpha Delta (CWRU) chapter of Phi Kappa Tau was awarded the Pytte Cup, the honor bestowed upon the best fraternity on campus. From a pack of 16 fraternities, Phi Kappa Tau has distinguished itself as an organization that is not only excelling, but continually improving. After 6 consecutive semesters of holding the highest GPA on campus, the brothers of Phi Tau improved upon their own high standards achieving a yearly GPA of 3.43 for 2003-2004.
Outside of the Case Western community, the Alpha Delta chapter of Phi Tau has been acknowledged by Phi Taus around the country as one of the best chapters. This honor came in the form of the Order of the Star, an award that distinguishes a chapter as being in the top 10% of all Phi Tau chapters. The Alpha Delta brothers also won the first runner up award in cumulative GPA, being beaten only by the Phi Taus from Cornell, achieving an astounding 3.52—a mark the brothers from Case Western hope to achieve.
Among awards honored by Phi Taus from around the country, the Alpha Delta chapter won the community service award. The award was granted based on many achievements in the Cleveland community, as well as throughout the United States and the globe. On campus, the annual “Phi K” 5 kilometer race and Casino Night events help raise money for Hole in the Wall Gang Camps, an organization that supports summer camps for chronically and terminally ill children. Alpha Delta brothers have also volunteered in community centers such as the Cleveland Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, and Habitat for Humanity. The spirit of service has driven the brothers of Phi Tau to volunteer at Hole in the Wall Gang Camps, such as Boggy Creek in Florida, and even perform volunteer work overseas in developing nations.
Phi Tau graduates from Case Western’s campus have gone on to become successful entrepreneurs and researchers. Their accomplishments range from developing insole technology for Nike, to research on the first MRI and receiving the Nobel Prize.
These achievements have all come within six years of re-establishment upon Case Western’s campus. Given the growth of the chapter in only six years, brothers of the Alpha Delta chapter of Phi Kappa Tau understand that it is important to appreciate success, but always see room for growth.
