On Saturday, April 25, 2009, a dedication ceremony was held outside of Adelbert Hall at CWRU in honor of Dr. Ignacio Ocasio. Doc Oc as he was commonly known was a beloved chemistry professor and served as our faculty advisor for many years before he suddenly died of a heart attack in May 2005. A student-led effort brought about the creation of a statue of Doc Oc to serve as a lasting memory on campus of such a great teacher, mentor, and friend.

Russ Warren, ΦKT Hall of Fame Brother

On February 16, 1957, Russell J. Warren was initiated into the Alpha Delta chapter of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. After graduating with a degree in electrical engineering from Case Western Reserve University, Warren continued his education at the Harvard Business School, receiving an MBA and quickly becoming the president of Association for Corporate Growth and M&A International, Incorporated.

Warren has advised clients from all over the world; as an expert on cross-border acquisitions and mergers, Warren held the position of president at the TransAction Group for twenty-one years. At present he has stepped up to the role of senior dealmaker and overseer of business at EdgePoint. He is also currently a trustee emeritus of Case Western Reserve, and a member of the Visiting Committees of the Weatherhead School of Management and the Case School of Engineering. Speaking of his new position, Warren said, "we've worked together before in the past. We've known each other and respected each other for a long time," just as the Alpha Delta brothers respect him, especially since he is another reason this chapter can be very proud to be.

Paul Lauterbur, ΦKT Hall of Fame Brother

Another initiate of Valentine's Day, 1948, Dr. Paul Christian Lauterbur is another Hall of Fame brother of the Alpha Delta chapter. After a tour in the military and upon graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in 1962, Lauterbur came up with, researched for, and developed an MRI machine that could differentiate between types of water, something impossible for any other imaging technique in existance at the time.

His first paper on the device submitted to Nature was rejected, but Lauterbur kept his head up and made sure that they reviewed it again; finally, it was published. The Sidney High School graduate, who grew up fiddling with his own chemistry lab as a kid and who taught at the University of Illinois for over two decades, recieved the Nobel Prize in the autumn of 2003. He died in 2007, but as University of Illinois Chancellor Richard Herman once said, "Paul's influence is felt around the world every day, every time an MRI saves the life of a daughter or son, a mother or a father" and he is just one more reason the Alpha Delta brothers can be very proud to be.

Chapter Computer Updates and Phi Tau on the Web

The chapter room computer has been updated to Windows 7 Ultimate (RC edition) by brother, Mike Druschel. By default, the computer will go to a screen saver and then a blacked -out screen when not in use. Upon wakeup, you will be prompted for the computer password. The password is the same as on previous editions of chapter computer setups (ask an older brother, Mike Druschel, or Tim Sutcliffe if you don't know the password). The operating system is fast enough for the old computer and will be fully active until approximately March, 2010 (by which point Case Western's software center should be offering the OS for free).

Starting in 1979 with the Nike Tailwind, the Air-sole hit the athletic shoe market. Even though the initial launch was filled with many frustrations for Rudy, he never gave up on Nike. He made an argument to keep Air at the forefront of Nike's plans, and in 1985 it resulted in huge success with the development of Visible Air technology. The Fairview High School graduate's discovery and work is remembered even to this day. In the words of Nike founder Phil Knight, "We can thank Frank Rudy and his Air innovation for catapulting Nike to the forefront of innovation in the athletic footwear industry," and he is yet another reason this chapter can be very proud to be.

Stellar IM Showing in 08/09

In a year of many close matches and some disappointing losses, Phi Tau nonetheless stunned other Greek chapters on campus with a 4th place finish out of 16 competing fraternities in intramural sports for the year. With several top finishes in events such as the outdoor track meet, Phi Tau jumped to an early lead in the fall, with Fiji, Delts and Sig Eps struggling to stay in the race. Despite fielding competitive teams for events such as indoor soccer and floor hockey in the spring, we lost our lead after failing to participate in or place in several events. However, we look to make a strong finish with the last event of the year, doubles tennis, coming up one week from now after having placed second in the recent table tennis tournament. Thanks to all of the brothers who participating in an exciting year of intramurals! Interesting fact: The four top fraternities in intramurals this year were among the top five fraternities in Greek Week.

ΦKT/ΦKΨ Defeats ΣN

On what had already been a disappointing day for the ΣN faithful, the three ΦKT All-Stars, Alex Greenwald, Matthew Collins, and Pete Simko--along with the help of members of ΦKΨ--played an amazing game and won out against the men in the black and gold. Intense diving catches by Collins, stellar infielding stunts by Greenwald, and seductive trick plays by Simko, gave way to a stunning 30 to 29 score. The softball tournament sponsored by Phi Psi was held "to benefit Cystic Fibrosis" and to keep

ΦKT Takes 2nd Place in Greek Week 2009!

The brothers of Alpha Delta silenced the naysayers in a surprisingly staggering performance, taking home their highest finish in Greek Week competition since rechartering. Right off the bat, Phi Tau's presence and spirit was a sight to behold. Mayank Prasad and Greg Tongue led the singers to a well-deserved first place crown, and Craig Becker and company stunned the Greek Life world with an awe-inspiring depiction of "Angelica" from the Rugrats in Can Castle, also taking home the trophy.

Phi Tau Soccer Team Performs well but Remains 4 Games Away in IM Indoor Tournament

The brilliant play of the Phi Tau soccer team let to us winning our first 2 games tonight. We beat the commuters and the Fiji with goals by Tim Sutcliffe, Eric Webb, Mike Druschel, and Mike Kowalski (shootout goal to win over Fiji). Alex Hunt, our lightning quick goalie only let in 1 goal over the course of three games. Other great play was shown by Jared Hoover, Alex Papadopulos, Matt Collins, and Drew Nassal. A big thanks goes to our new associate brother, Jake Luers who locked down the defensive half of the field. The third game ended in a shootout after a 0-0 tie vs. SigEp. Aft

IM Basketball Wins Over Beta

Phi Tau's IM Basketball team topped Beta Theta Pi 37-35 last night. With a depleted 6 man roster, the team used clutch shots and solid inside defense to come back from a 5 point deficit at halftime. Drew Nassal was the first option on offense, taking the ball to the hoop. Mayank Prasad played a gutsy game on an ankle he had injured two days before and often handled the point. Mike Kowalski played all 40 minutes and dominated the glass. Paul Hay chipped in a few ridiculous made shots. Joe Dickman played a solid game on both sides of the court and hit the game winner with 30 seconds left. Eric Webb split time between point guard and small forward and scored in double digits for the first time since 3rd grade. Great game guys.

Brian Nelson is Mr. CWRU 2008

Brothers went out to support Brad Wright, Connor Burke, and Brian Nelson at Sigma Psi's 30th annual Mr. CWRU male beauty competition. Contestants participated in various "Kings of the Kitchen" themed portions of the show, showing off everything from formal wear to talents. After a night filled with excitement and plenty of laughs, Brian Nelson was crowned victorious and joined the bejeweled list of ΦKT Mr. CWRU's. Brian's Robin act <strike>cracked-up</strike> stunned the packed house, which helped raise $2000 for ECNC.

Cleveland Rocks! Party on the Floor 2008

Last Friday, Nov. 14th, Phi Tau had its 4th annual Party on the Floor. It was decided to adopt a theme of Cleveland Rocks this year. In a departure from previous years, the main common area was turned into a dance floor. Drinks and chips were served between suites 602 and 603. Suite 602 was a Video suite, showing such Cleveland classics as Major League. Suite 603 was the Video Game Suite, this year decorated as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and adorned with Rock Band insanity. Suite 601 was a "Chill Suite", full of party games and good company. Suite 604 was dubbed the Michigan Suite, and obviously no one wanted to go in there. A good time was had by all, and the turnout was huge. Everyone in Clarke Tower and Cutler were invited, in addition to a massive list of invitees supplied by the brothers. Each hour, the party rocked out to the Cleveland Shuffle, Hang on Sloop, and Cleveland Rocks.

Track Meet

As per tradition, Phi Tau blew away the competition at this years intramural track meet. With only 7 participating runners, we nonetheless persevered through multiple events each, with brothers placing in each event. By the end of the night, we had more than double the score of any other team. Great job guys!

Drag Ball

Always seeking to rise above the competition and set ourselves apart from other chapters, this Saturday the brothers of Phi Kappa Tau, Alpha Delta chapter did just that. With four participants, Phi Tau gained half of the proceeds of this years annual drag ball as the largest participating group, an amount of approximately $500, to be donated to Boggy Creek. In addition to our group accomplishment, three of the four brothers achieved personal success. Jared Gregory won the competition outright for his second time, clinching the win with a wonderfully painful-appearing split. In second place was David Karnack, who put his acting skills to use as the seductive Lola. In third place was bell-adorned Matt Collins, who performed a number from the musical "Hairspray". The fourth participant, Brian Nelson, cut a stunning figure as a bride, with a real wedding dress!

The brothers of the Alpha Delta chapter have reached out and made connections with two other chapters of Phi Kappa Tau over the past few weeks.

IM Soccer Playoffs End with Loss to Sigma Chi

After easily winning their first IM soccer playoff game 4-1 verse Sigma Nu, the Phi Tau team fails to advance to the third round of playoffs. The Sigma Chi game involved lots of missed opportunities and moments of greatness matched equally by moments of confusion. Eric Webb was able to capitalize on a mistake by the Sigma Chi goalie and bury the ball in the net after a very poor goal kick from Sigma Chi. Within minutes Sigma Chi was amazingly able to sink a shot past goalie Tim Sutcliffe (who played a solid game) after a fluke play in the box. Both goals were scored in the second half and then no other opportunities led to goals, leaving the final score 1-1. The game went into a sudden death shootout. Sigma Chi went first and sunk a shot after faking out the Phi Tau goalie. Phi Tau went second and Mike Druschel's shot was blocked by a textbook save from the Sigma Chi goalie (who only played goalie for the shootout). It was a heart breaker, but the brothers lost to a good opponent. Good luck Sigma Chi!

IM Soccer Ends in Tie vs. Zeta Psi

The Phi Tau soccer team held the perennial power house, Zeta Psi to a 1-1 tie on Monday, Oct. 13. The first half consisted of strong pressure by Zeta Psi's highly athletic players. Zeta Psi eventually sunk a shot again Phi Tau's amazing goalie, Tim Sutcliffe, after a breakdown in the Phi Tau defense. Tim continued to make a bunch of key saves, holding Zeta Psi to one goal the rest of the game. Brian Nelson played a particularly exciting game from the defensive side of the field. Brian set up many offensive plays, made a number of key defensive plays, and helped to increase the Phi Tau teamwork on the field. After the confusing and rough first half, the Phi Tau team began to work together and managed a couple of key breakaway opportunities. One such opportuntiy was set up by brother Brian Nelson after a grand defensive stop, turning the ball up field and setting up the wide open Mike Druschel for the breakaway. Mike managed to beat the Zeta Psi defenders long enough to sink an easy one on one with the Zeta Psi goalie. Additional pressure by Phi Tau led to a few other breakaway opportunities but the very fast Zeta Psi defense broke up any these chances. All-in-all, it was a game well played, with lots of enthusiasm and persistence by the brothers of Phi Kappa Tau, despite the fact that Zeta Psi controlled the ball 2/3 of the time.
