Brothers Find Success in Racquetball Tourney
The brothers of Phi Kappa Tau improved on last year’s performance in the Case intramural racquetball, earning first place in the Fraternity and Fraternity Mullet divisions.
Led by Intramural Chairman Brian Tomayko, the brothers of Phi Kappa Tau saw their greatest success to date in the intramural racquetball tournament. With a total of 8 players, Phi Tau was able to enter two teams into this year’s competition: one in the Fraternity division and one in the Fraternity Mullet division.
Actives Matthew Riffe, Mike Rienzo, and Brian Tomayko along with Alumnus Davorin ‘Cro’ Skender managed to earn first place in their division, filling up three of the four semi-finalist positions. The road to the final match wasn’t easy for Cro, having to beat Matthew Riffe on his path to the championship. Cro squared off against Tomayko in the finals, and the Eastern European Sensation came up victorious in a hard fought match. Overall, the team recorded 58 points overall, beating out 2nd place Zeta Psi with 18 points.
The Fraternity Mullet team was led by seasoned racquetball veteran Tom Boatwright, and consisted of Yu Dong, Bryan Hickman, and Paul Murray. The Mullet team performance echoed the performance of its brother team, obtaining 3 of the 4 semifinalist positions. Tom Boatwright toppled Dong in the final match, which was lopsided after Dong’s harrowing performance in the Big/Little football game earlier that day.
The performance in racquetball should advance the fraternity’s standing in the All Sport Trophy race, where Phi Tau currently holds the third place spot below Zeta Beta Tau and Sigma Alpha Epsilon, with a 10 point edge on Phi Delta Theta.
