Phi Taus Participate in Mr. CWRU Competition
Manoj Nair and Dave Young performed admirably in the annual Mr. CWRU competition sponsored by Sigma Psi
The brothers of Phi Kappa Tau have all come to know and love the humor of Dave Young and the singing of Manoj Nair. They both were able to display their talents and were able to show various things about themselves in the 27th Mr. CWRU competition on Saturday November 12th at Schmitt Auditorium. Manoj represented Phi Tau while Dave represented the Panhellenic Council.
The competition included 14 contesants sponsored by various fraternities and student organizations. The opening rounds included a costume competition, beach wear and formal wear. The highlights of those rounds included Manoj dressing up in a quasi-teddy bear outfit and Dave dressing himself up in pajamas to symbolize his undying commitment to the desires of the ladies of Panhel.
Dave and Manoj made out of the initial three rounds (only 6 total people made it). The talent competition, which was after the first three rounds, included Dave playing a banjo, violin, and guitar, while Manoj sang Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" in a towel and a hair net (emulating a 'singing in the shower' type of tinhg). The impromptu question section brought out a reference to the now-infamous Gummi Bears theme song (which was Manoj's answer to the question, "Which song is the soundtrack to your life?").
All in all, Dave won the "Mr. Congeniality" competition previously determined by the contestants themselves. Dave placed as the 2nd runner up, while, as noted, Manoj was able to break into the top six. Congratulations to both of them for performing so well and making us all proud to be.
