Phi Kappa Tau Kicks Off Hockey Season

The brothers of Phi Kappa Tau came up on the short end of a 4-2 floor hockey game against Sigma Phi Epsilon on Wednesday night, 2/22/06.

There were thrills and there were spills. However, when it came down to 0.0 on the clock, the brothers of Phi Kappa Tau came up on the short end of a 4-2 IM floor hockey game against Sigma Phi Epsilon. From the get go, both teams played very physically and people ended up on the floor left and right. The intensity was at a high level from the start and never let up. All that was needed was a pair of boxing gloves and this would have been a full fledged battle. Sig Ep got on the board first but Phi Tau quickly countered with a quick one-timer by Shardule Shah that was set up by a fantastic pass from Jon Lux. A few lapses in defense and the inability to get quality shots on goal hampered Phi Tau throughout the evening. Much of Phi Tau's energy was expended in clearing out the ball from their own zone and trying to find an open lane through which to shoot. A couple of bad bounces went against Phi Tau and the score was 4-1 until the end of the game when Eric Webb brought it closer with a nice shot to make it 4-2.

Ultimately, this game was the epitome of a team sport should be. All players received equal or nearly equal playing time and fun was had by all despite losing the game. This was an especially different experience for the freshman who had not seen this kind of intensity in a floor hockey game before. The goaltending was manned by rookie Alex Hunt, who played very well in his first game. His skills will continue to improve as the season progresses but this was a great start for him. The defense was governed by Matthew Riffe, Shardule Shah, Todd Jacobs, and Jon Lux while the forward positions were manned by Eric Webb, Mike Druschel, Edgar Wilson, Alan Klinkhachorn, Mike Rienzo, and Mick Crawford.

Congratulations to all; the brothers of Phi Tau are looking forward to their next game and hoping for even more participation.
