Amidst light rain and a strong wind Phi Tau began the intramural soccer season with a matchup against Delta Upsilon at Van Horn field on Tuesday night.  A slow start led to a couple early scoring chances by Delta Upsilon.  However, Jake Luers, Alex Papadopulos, and Shane Lu locked it down defensively while Tim Sutcliffe, Alex Greenwald, Joe Dickman, Jared Hoover, Michael Kowalski, and Drew Nassal led the attack offensively and put the pressure on Delta Upsilon’s defense.  Phi Tau controlled the ball for most of the second half but was unable to connect on several scoring chances.  After 36 minutes the game remained tied, so it came down to sudden death penalty kicks.  John Zamojski who made his debut in goal today stopped one penalty kick while the second Delta Upsilon attempt went over the net.  Delta Upsilon’s goalie stopped Tim Sutcliffe’s attempt, but Jared Hoover was able to put it past him and win the game, 1-0.
